Beyonce, a Dachshund mix female puppy, is pictured on an iPhone. Beyonce, who weighed just one ounce and could fit into a teaspoon when born, could be the world’s smallest dog, according to animal rescuers in northern California. The puppy was born at the home of Beth DeCaprio, executive director of the Grace Foundation. The rescuers have submitted an application to Guinness World Records for Beyonce to be considered the world’s smallest dog.
Star trails and northern lights are captured using a 100-minute exposure in Fairbanks, Alaska. Photographer Eric Cheng says: “I timed our stay in Alaska with the new moon and spring equinox to maximise the chances of dark skies and auroral activity. We were very lucky one night and had intense auroral activity. Most of the sky was glowing green, with bright bands dancing across it.”
Photographer Steve Shinn captured fast food handovers by two white-tailed kites in rural Orange County, California. The male will hunt for rodents, usually mice or voles, and the female will fly up to snatch the prize from his claws. Steve says: The male goes hunting and returns with loud chirps to alert the waiting female. She flies up to meet him and takes the prize from his talons. She then goes to a nearby branch to rip into it. Occasionally the male will return to eat one himself, but sometimes the female will fly over and take it from him by force and eat it while sitting next to him.
A female Dachshund mix named Beyonce sits on an iPhone in El Dorado Hills, California. The puppy, named after one of the world’s biggest pop stars, could set the world’s record for tiniest dog. Animal rescuers in Northern California say that Beyonce was so small at birth that she could fit into a spoon (though they don’t say what type of spoon – a teaspoon? a salt spoon?).
